A Comment on Obama and Holder’s position on guns and mental illness

I completely disagree with the position of President Obama and Attorney General Holder in dealing with gun rights of people alleged to be mentally ill. As a struggling survivor of the catastrophically flawed psychiatric system myself, it is not that I think everyone would be better off with guns. As a matter of fact, I think perhaps in view of the rising tide of violence across the United States, it would be more likely that we would have a saner and safer society if laws were passed to simply make guns illegal for everyone, including the police and federal agents. In such a case I would suggest that weapons only be allowed to be used by well trained soldiers in times of military conflict.

However, in view of the fact that this is not a likely direction for the United States, and in view of the fact that it appears in spite of all of the violence in the country the majority of the people feel they are safer if their right to bear arms is protected, it is the dangerous manner of pointing to so-called mental illness which is of concern to me.

Mr. Holder has spoken of his support for taking away the rights of the alleged mentally ill to buy guns if they were at anytime in an outpatient or inpatient psychiatric setting. He has gone on to comment that we have seen too much violence in our society among people who are not being treated properly. President Obama apparently supports these same perspectives.

Well, for a start I myself am not concerned about flipping out and going to buy a gun or semi-automatic weapon and going on a killing spree, unless my normal brain chemistry is altered by the so-called proper treatments of the psychiatrists for anything under the sun, meaning their poisonous arsenal of psychiatric drugs, all of which are associated with the development of suicidal and homicidal ideation and intent. The neuroleptics, lithium, ritalin and anti-depressants all mimic mental illness and worse. They create homicidal maniacs out of otherwise warm, sensitive peaceful people. The Citizens Commission on Human Rights has written again and again about how the facts show most of the school shooters and other mass killers in recent years were on these so-called proper treatments, and yet far too few people, including the US Attorney Generals office and President Obama, are  listening to the facts.

Furthermore, by making a blanket statement that anyone who has been in psychiatric settings should have their rights infringed upon makes the same catastrophic and painful error as the psychiatrists, insofar as failing to recognize any windows of complete cures. Sadly, this problem becomes even more upsetting when we consider cures from what in the first place, since there are actually no biological markers for any of the mythical diagnoses of the
psychiatrists.

I myself do not want a gun, as I have noted. However, I have tried to view the mindset of a pro-gun advocate who is really concerned he and his family could be shot to death by gangs, say in New York City, Los Angeles or Chicago, if he does not have a gun to protect himself and scare off the gangs.

This guy is an outspoken political type in this hypothetical story. His political enemies decide to use the tragically corrupt and flawed psychiatric system to have him run into a psychiatric facility by calling an 800 number to the mental health squads in town with a lot of confabulated stuff about this guy. He is run in and placed on a 36 hour hold.

He was so shocked by all of this, that by the time he was dragged down to court, drugged, and disheveled from being beaten up by the psychiatrists and psychiatric nurses and thrown in isolation, that he appeared irritable before the judge who ordered 90 days of outpatient treatment to get to the bottom of this problem. This guy, who has no mental illness at all, now had a psychiatric record due to all of this so-called proper treatment.

On his way to his job at the local bank soon thereafter an armed gang started stalking him and making fun of him. They taunted him  and promised they were going to have a great time with his wife and their teenage daughter right in front of him when they broke into his place next weekend. This guy called the FBI and police, both of whom now had him listed as a nut in town, and they laughed on the phone that he must be looking for the boogie boogie men and they hung up. This guy than went to buy a gun to protect himself and his family and his registration papers were rejected based on a psychiatric record.

That weekend the gang broke into his him, asked why the sissy did not have a gun to protect his own family, and than tied him up and raped his wife and daughter multiple times in front of him before slitting their throats. They laughed at the banker, spit on him and left him crying on the floor of his living room in the blood from his wife and daughter.

The headlines in the news that evening read, “Lunatic banker rapes his own wife and daughter and murders them.” The police wrote the entire incident off as the workings of the supposed cuckoo banker, since after all he had a psychiatric record, and never really did any proper forensic investigations of the rapes and murders. The poor guy was sentenced to life in a locked ward of a high security prison mental hospital after a swift trial. He himself was raped and murdered in that place during the first month.

About Harold Mandel

After becoming a physician I became interested in Natural Health Care when I discovered that orthodox medicine often does not offer people what they are searching for when they are interested in their optimal health potential. I also developed an interest in working for mental health care reforms when I learned that mental health care human rights abuses are a very serious problem across the United States and internationally. I have devoted a major part of my professional career towards working to improve mental health care. I have founded "The Harold Mandel, MD Natural Mental Health Care Reform Association" and the "Mandel News Service" to help expose and wipe out mental health care human rights abuses while offering natural options for mental health care. Please be advised that unless otherwise stated the positions against psychiatry in this blog are solely based on my opinions. These opinions are not based on scientific studies. The commentaries in this blog are in no manners meant to take the place of medical treatment if such medical treatment is necessary. However, it is my advice to all readers that you should consult with health care providers who are not psychiatrists if you need help with your general health or mental health. And if at anytime psychiatrists force treatment on you I encourage you try to get help from a lawyer who has an interest in helping people fight unwanted psychiatric treatment. Also, please be advised that although reports herein are often very critical of US Department of Justice associated mental health care brutality I am a peace activist and I only support peaceful forms of protest!-Harold Mandel
